On July 6, the "Sailing from Qianhai" event, jointly hosted by the Shenzhen Municipal Science, Technology, and Innovation Bureau, the Qianhai International Talent Hub, EyeShenzhen, and Nezha Sailing, took place in the waters near Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport Ferry Terminal in Qianhai. This event provided expats with an opportunity to get an up-close view of the newly opened Shenzhong (Shenzhen-Zhongshan) Link and to appreciate the transformation of Qianhai.
Nearly 40 expats gathered in Qianhai
Nearly 40 expats from the United States, the U.K., Brazil, Russia, Pakistan, and other countries participated in the event, which had a vibrant atmosphere. Before boarding, a staff member from Nezha Sailing provided a concise orientation covering sailboat basics and essential safety guidelines. Setting off from the sailboat base, the voyage headed towards the Shenzhong Link, offering participants a unique perspective of this engineering marvel. The event promoted maritime sports, raised awareness of ocean conservation, and helped establish Shenzhen as a global marine center.
A closer look at Shenzhong Link
As the expedition sailed over the sea, the proximity to the Shenzhong Link intensified the visual impact for the expats. The project connects Qianhai with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. After seven years of construction, this project, which includes bridges, artificial islands, and an underwater tunnel, opened to traffic on June 30, reducing the driving time between Zhongshan and Shenzhen to less than 30 minutes. Participants remarked that the event not only showcased the Shenzhong Link but also highlighted China's capabilities in infrastructure construction.
As a pivotal area for Shenzhen's future development, the ocean plays a strategic role in fostering high-quality growth. Currently, Shenzhen is focused on advancing its marine industry in a digital, intelligent, green, and international manner. By expediting the construction of the marine electronic information industry chain, enhancing innovation in marine science and technology, and cultivating new productive forces in the marine sector, Shenzhen aims to establish itself as a global marine hub that attracts talent from around the world to contribute to this vibrant coastal city.
